Welcome to the website of the Australian Over 60s team for the World Cup. Finally, we are proud to be able to say that we are hosting this event which is the inaugural World Cup for the World’s Over 60s cricketers. The event has been postponed twice due to Covid and the Queensland Organising Committee has done a fabulous job in staying focused through this period and working assiduously to ensure that this will be a truly great tournament.
The Australian team, under the leadership of Chris Carr and Peter Jensen, will be trying their best to emulate the success of the Australian Over 50s team by winning the first ever World Cup for their Age group. Having said that, it is clear that all the countries represented at this event will consist of very talented players, be well prepared and prove to be formidable opposition.
Despite what will no doubt be intense competition, the essence of veterans cricket is that the game is played in the true “spirit of cricket” celebrating the fact that at our age we are still able to enjoy the camaraderie on and off the field that only cricket can provide. This World Cup will be an exceptional opportunity to promote this on the International stage.
I wish to thank the selectors who had the unenviable task of selecting a national team in the absence of national competitions for the last couple of years. I have no doubt that all those representing Australia will do so to the best of their abilities and may the best team win.
