Both the Australian and Zimbabwean flags rustle in the breeze at the Yandina Club.

Match Report Round 3 Vs Zimbabwe from Team Manager David Head.

Another beautiful day on the Sunny Coast at the picturesque Grounds and Club House at Yandina.  The facilities at all grounds of this Tournament are exceptional.  Baggy Greens were presented to 3 Australian debutantes, Bruce Mackie, Richard Johnston and Mike Goldsmith.

After winning the toss, Aussie Skipper Chris Carr had no hesitation in sending Zimbabwe in to bat, believing that his bowlers would get a deal of assistance from the pitch. Chris’s prediction came true in a big way, with the Zimbabwe bats struggling under the conditions to be rolled for 18 runs.

The Australian bowlers made the most of the conditions and dominated with Mike Goldsmith taking 4 for 7 off his 9 overs, Bruce Mackie 2 for 1 off 1.5 overs, Mark Trafford-Walker 2 for 6 off 6 overs and Richard Johnston 1 for 4 off 5 overs.

Australia lost Greg Hoysted early, but Peter Jensen and Glenn Richardson saw them through to a very comfortable win.  Despite the loss, Zimbabwe were very upbeat regarding the benefit this World Cup will bring to their Country, and are strongly committed to fostering Veterans Cricket at their local and International level.
